On 2 October, the Queensland College of Teachers On 2 October, the Queensland College of Teachers will announce the recipients of the 2024 TEACHX Awards. Our College is immensely proud that three inspirational, but also incredibly humble, members of our valued teaching team made this year’s shortlist. These teachers epitomise the expertise, passion, patience, fresh thinking, rigour and never-give-up attitude every College member brings to their roles at Arethusa. Meet Dr Paul (Harold) Rumble. Paul has donned a few hats since joining us in 2019, including as a teacher and teacher mentor. Currently he is Curriculum Leader, New Teacher Mentor and Coach. Paul’s heart for teaching is beyond compare. To give almost 50 years of your professional life (he will mark this monumental milestone in 2027) to educating others, both students and teachers, is an incredible gift. Paul started life as a teacher before advancing to senior curriculum roles and then Deputy Principal and Principal, largely in Catholic schools. He joined Arethusa in 2019 and is committed to seeing out his final years in the profession passing on to beginning teachers the vast knowledge, expertise, insights and lessons he has learned over his five-decade career. Paul completed a PhD in education with a focus on adolescence and the teachers who work with them. He believes this developmental age is where we need our very best teachers, not only teaching our students but also mentoring our new and beginner teachers. Paul is also a lifelong learner. Currently he’s enrolled in a certificate in neurodiversity with the purpose being to bring a new screening tool and his learnings to our classrooms and our new and beginner teachers. The tool will increase teacher awareness of neurodiversity, so that staff can build individual student profiles — to understand how they learn and to look at different ways to successfully engage them in learning. Our College is richer for Paul’s contributions and presence.
